The big story of the Bible is the story of a good God who continually moves close to rebellious and unworthy creatures. How much more sense would the Bible make if God would just wipe out everyone and start again at any of the crisis moments in the story? How much more sense would the Bible make if God remained hidden and distant, lobbing expectations at us from a distance and demanding submission from his little creatures? But what if the Bible is not supposed to make sense to our fallen perspective? What if the Bible is the story of the good God who moves close to fallen creatures to win them back into the embrace of the Trinity? If that is the goal, then maybe the Bible, and Christmas, start to make sense.
